Well as you can tell from the title of this page it’s about Gran Turismo. Im an avid player of racing games and especially this game, Ive played all itterations of GT from 1 to the latest 4. On this page I will tell you about the game for those who dont play it and also let you in on secrets for those who do play it.
A Breif History Of Gran Turismo
In December 1997 GT1 was released in Japan to massive acclaim and became a huge hit all over the globe when it saw a world wide release in 1998, the fact of the matter was that Kazunori Yamauchi had made a game that people wanted to play.
Not shortly after GT2 was to be released and would exspand on the already amaizing GT1. With 33 Manufacturers in the game it was this that sent Polyphony Digital into the developers hall of fame.
The year 2000 saw the launch of Sony’s Playstation 2 and many people were dissapointed not to see a version of GT launch at the same time, but Kaz and his team were not to be rushed and in 2001 GT3 was launched, with it’s graphics overhaul using PS2 to it’s fullist and having a huge amount of manufactures and cars it quickly became a killer application for the Playstation 2.
Kaz wasnt going to sit idely by and watch gamers play, ohh no he went on to release GT Concept which were based on the Tokyo, Seoul & Geneva Motor shows. These were just more of a stop gap till GT4, but due to delays Polyphony had to think quick on there feet, so they released GT4-Prologue, this was like GT Concept but was using the uprated Physics and graphics engines from GT4.
Eventually in 2004 GT4 was released and boy what a game it was, along with new cars and better physics and graphics came a host of new game featuers. The best new feature to be added to the brand was the photomode and phototravel features, these enable you to take pictures from your races and save them to your PC or Mac via a memory stick, this then spawned a whole new dynamic to GT that wasn’t seen coming. The GT4 photomode competitions held over at GTplanet, these competitions are one of the best things since GT was first concived.
The franchise is continuing over to the PS3 with Vision GT or GT5, but until then there will be an online version of GT4 and there is Polyphonys new game called TT or Tourist Trophy.

Tip’s & Tricks for GT4
Before you tune a car go to the auto section on the world map and change your oil, this only costs around 250cr and will give you an extra HP boost without costing the earth. (This also works in GT3)
When starting a new game in GT4 if you have got a GT Prologue save and or a GT3 save on the memory card you can goto the status screen in your garage and press start. This will then give you extras:
For a GT3 save you will get an extra 100,000cr (not 100% on that
)
For a GT Prologue save you get two lisence test done (but you dont get the cars and the gold cups, you will need to do them by yourself to get these)
If you are entering a race and it says in the rules that you can’t tune you car, you can. Got to the auto centre and do the oil change cheat, the ngot to your tuning page fro that make or the tuners pages is they applie, then do all the upgrades apart from:
Exhaust, engine parts & turbo parts but all the rest dont count as tuning, this should give you enough of an edge over the AI and will then lead to you win by miles.
I will add more as the become available.
My Thoughts On GT4
Durin the time ive spent playing GT4 ive had ups and downs, I have found some things hard and some too easy but these dont go in any order and thats what I love about GT on a whole, you never know what the next race will hold
The amount of Manufactures and cars available is astounding and most can be tuned in different ways, and the amount of courses on offere is good too, just a shame there arn’t any British tracks. The one thing that amaizes me is the Nurburgring with its twist corners and bumps and hills it is a demon of a track.
Another stroke of genius from Kaz and his team is the Photomode and Photo travel sections of the game, I love taking pictures and sharing with friends over the net and also entering the competitions on GTplanet.
